It’s getting hot here in Florida. Really hot. After being in Georgia all last week I came back home to 100 degree weather with 80% humidity. Yuck.
Since the summer season is just beginning, I’m in summer dress mode. Short, sleeveless dresses become my go-to outfit for running errands, going to dinner, and well just doing anything outside (other than horseback riding of course). I recently sewed up this dress using the Ruby dress pattern by Made by Rae. I used some fabric I bought while in Austin a couple months back. As soon as I spotted the mod floral print, I knew it would make the perfect summer dress.
I used the both a medium yoke pattern and dress pattern however, I slid the front and back dress patterns over 1/2″ from the fold to add an extra 2″ of ease to accommodate my Cuban bootie. Knowing that shift style dresses usually aren’t very flattering on me, I created a skinny belt with some scrap fabric. If you have more of a straight figure, you may prefer to wear this without a belt.
It was my first time using bias tape and I think I prefer creating my own with long strips of fabric. I found it a bit too stiff. Anyone have any pointers for using it?
